Artist Statement
I paint what I see. I like the way light hits at certain times and I like to visually record it. That's pretty much the long and short of it. I started painting in 2018. I was needing a way to get out of my own head. Golf seemed like too much of a hassle. I've always had a knack for drawing and an eye, but I never really applied much effort towards creating art until I started this recent painting thing.
I use acrylic paint on canvas as my medium. I work from photographs I've taken or borrowed with interesting light, and maybe some kind of irony in the image. If there is a "style" to my work, it's not intentional. I'm just trying to paint what I see. This showing is my first, and it's pretty much everything I've done so far. It's called "Peggy Sue Ate Mushrooms" because an old friend described my work as realist Americana but kind of trippy at the same time. I like that summation.
Soo... I continue to paint. Looking for a voice. Learning a bit about myself. Who knows what turns will be taken? I am quite happy to have this sincere, organic way to get lost in something while creating.
