Meena Khalili presents "Kinetic TypoGraphy," photographs of projected image sculpture. Khalili's complex process of creating her final images starts with "cutting typographic form from pieces of paper... building walls made of sheets with holes carrying language, but free of the burden of forming words." Khalili then projects moving images on the "stagnant structure," to help each paper sculpture "gain volume and live a fleeting sculptural life." The final results are images of the sculptures and their projections. Her work "grows from the battle between permanence and impermanence," and is motivated by "language, translation and her cultural heritage, as a first generation Iranian American." Khalili received her BFA and MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and was a Visiting Workshop Instructor at VCUs Doha, Qatar Campus. Working in the design industry since 2005, she is a professor at Virginia State University, teaching Graphic Design and Illustration.
