Artists Statement

As individual artists there are limits to amount of work created and ideas generated. Two can double the output with collaborative art while also generating unique ideas. With the "Power of Three" we have shared a brain to discover creative possibilities individually we would never have conceived and executed.

The P3 group started this current series on January 29th, 2011 with wire sculptures that we layered and translated to large abstracted paintings on paper. At the same time we started working on plaster casting of various relief techniques that ranged from random patterns to objects selected for compositional relationships. We have moved those works to abstract figurative sculptures.

The show we are creating is of freestanding and relief forms created through our collaborate process. Our "Stack" project is a connection to John Cage's concept of Indeterminacy. We have participated in life modeling sessions creating drawings with random models from our random locations in the various studios. We are using those drawings and created maquettes separately at our own studios that have three components: Legs, torso, and head made out of various materials. We then reconfigure the maquettes containing parts from each of our works. Some of those maquettes are being enlarged to life-sized or greater sculptures with mixed parts. We are creating a relief sculpture in clay from our observation of the same model and her position from our simultaneous locations. The relief parts will be Raku and Pit Fired to have random surface marks and colorings.
