Artist Statement

The echo of what you know should be there, the vague lingering sensations that are rippling from ancient events you cannot even comprehend, and our primordial connections with our universe...these are our phantom limbs. The courage to let those things fall away that have served their purpose, the tenacity to move forward in the face of absurd existence, and the inner fortitude to turn and to leave behind what is no longer needed...these are our deciduous appendages.

Phantom Limbs is a showing of two-dimensional collage illustrations. They are created using a variety of vintage & antique paper sources, including novels & storybooks, encylopedias & dictionaries, textbooks & reference sources, and other found & salvaged pages. Images are painstakingly cut by hand using a variety of small blades, and lovingly arranged and blended with hand-inked lines.

Deciduous Appendages is a showing of three-dimensional collage & assemblage pieces. They are created using a variety of vintage & antique ephemera & oddities.

The Lady Octavia...artist, seamstress, photographer, & fusion vaudeville/circus sideshow performer. These are but a few of the areas of creative expression that she is exploring, bringing to each her unique personal style & flair. Picking apart elements of Victorian and vintage fashions and ideologies, mixing in a little sideshow carnival mystique, and coming from her deep connections to ancient tribalism, she weaves together coherent & entertaining stories that resonate on a universal level.

She lives with her husband and son in Fulton Hill in a small house with cats, snakes, and gardens. They plan to take their show on the road soon, traveling together, peddling their wares and musical performance acts, in the interest of adventure, education, and in the pursuit of a an eventual forever home with an intentional artistic community.

The artist is available for visual and performance arts via her web-site.
