Andrew Zimmermann will exhibit "Ways to Lexington" in the Helena Davis and Frable Galleries. Zimmermann deals with the relationship between childhood memory and present-day reality. Through poignant black and white photographs, Zimmermann recalls and searches for his grandparents' farmhouse, where he once experienced a certain lightness and freedom. On this journey, he instead finds signs of loss and decay that parallel his aging grandparents' onset of Alzheimer's and dementia. Zimmermann states, "Many of the photographs express a vivid sense of illumination�but no matter the brilliance of the scene, the atmosphere always seemed thick with something other than the summer humidity or the autumn mists." Displayed in pairs, his photographs enter into a conversation with one another to illustrate "the varieties and nuances of decline and loss, embodied in the elements of light and landscape."
Andrew Zimmermann has had numerous solo and group shows across the United States. He currently lives and works out of Arlington, Virginia and was a recipient of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Professional Fellowship for 2012-2013. This is his first solo show at artspace gallery.
